South by Southwest 2023 (also known as SXSW) kicked off last weekend in Texas, United States, a cultural event featuring music, cinema, technology, education-focused conferences and attractions, among other topics. Among the attendees of this year’s conference, which started on March 10 and will continue until March 19 (next Sunday), is Disney, which takes care to bring very interesting news, including a robot.

Taking the stage last Friday (10), Disney’s head of parks, experiences and products, Josh D’Amaro, presented the panel titled Creating Happiness: The Art and Science of Disney Parks Storytelling, which brought a medium-sized robot to the public. “This is our latest effort to make robots that we think can emotionally connect with our guests,” said Tony Dohi, one of the creative minds behind Disney products who accompanied D’Amaro on stage. “We use high-performance materials and take advantage of mechanical scale effects, so [robô] dynamic and resilient. But we also use motion capture data because we want to make emotional performances.”

Another big Disney first revealed during SXSW 2023 was a “real” lightsaber like those seen in the series. Star warsCreated by George Lucas. As if by magic, D’Amaro pressed the button on the weapon and a light burst from the base of the item, astonishing the onlookers. However, Disney’s creative team did not reveal how they created the object or what technologies they used in the object. We only know that the sword is part of Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, which is an attraction in one of the company’s parks.

It has also not been announced whether the rabbit-headed robot will be brought to Disney parks, but it is quite possible.
