Apple is testing iPhones with a USB-C port. Anonymous sources reported this to Bloomberg. The company appears to be bowing to the upcoming EU guidelines for chargers.

iPhones with USB-C connections will be available in 2023 at the earliest. A new adapter is said to be in development for accessories that use Apple’s Lightning port.

Apple has equipped more of its devices with USB-C ports in recent years, but has stuck to Lightning for their iPhones. Switching to USB-C could be harmful to Apple; The range of usb-c accessories is much larger, which means more competition.

At the end of last month, EU members voted overwhelmingly in favor of the USB-C charging standard. The European Parliament is expected to meet this month to approve the plans.
