Twitter user @MigaIsNotACat succeeded Getting Mac OS 7 to run on Steam Deck† The operating system of the 90s will probably no longer be suitable for playing modern games, but a little nostalgia is always nice.

Miga shared a 32-second video on Twitter showing its landing on the Mac OS 7 desktop. In the “About This Macintosh” window we see that it is indeed System Software 7.1. The Miga doesn’t open any other programs (or games), so it’s still somewhat questionable how well they all actually work.

It seems that Steam Deck treats the Mac OS installation as a game, so it looks like a virtualization. Recently, installing Windows 10 and 11 on Deck was still a ‘hot topic’, Valve even released drivers for it. However, as long as the dual boot system from Valve is not finished yet, Windows installation will continue instead of SteamOS.
