A 41 year old Dutch faces legal action to offer as sperm donor in some countries, by changing his identity to exceed the number of children allowed by law. Anyway, he himself assured one of his sperm recipients that she should already have several 550 stems worldwide.

Jonathan M., as he is known in the Dutch press, has been offering himself as a sperm donor since 2007. Initially, he only did this at assisted reproduction clinics in his country. However, when it became known that he had received more than a hundred donations, he was included in the list. black list this forced him to continue offering overseas.

Because he was changing his personality, he was hard to find. Moreover, instead of following official channels fertility clinics, it was offered online in many countries, including Spain. As explained in the Dutch newspaper, in this way he came to woman on a date in a completely informal way, going to their house and giving a sample in his bathroom. It was one of these women, knowing how many children she had, who initiated the lawsuit. But why is it illegal to have so many children?

There is an explanation for the sperm donor limit

Each country has its own donation limit for a sperm donor. In Spain, for example, this limit is set at 6 people. There is a national donor registry, just so that someone does not try to exceed this number by donating blood in various clinics. For this reason, Jonathan M. turned to the Internet, which in Spain this is not a legal way.

In his country, the limit is 25 people, which is also much higher. But what are the reasons for these restrictions?

Actually, the explanation is very simple. Basically what you are trying to do is avoid consanguinity. If a person has hundreds of children, the likelihood increases that, being older, they unknowingly have offspring between brothers and sisters. Or between cousins.

This, as many real and fictional royal families throughout history have shown us, is a problem due to the increasing prevalence of certain genetic disorders.

However, Jonathan M. does not think so. According to him, his children are big family and they will be very happy and special for that. He claims that he does this out of simple altruism, as he wants to help families who cannot have children. He indicated that his intention is not to be the person with the most children in the world. As for his lawyer, he insisted that it was important that this not overwhelm the families who already have children with his help, since sperm donor.

It will be seen to what extent they are affected. One thing is clear: when it comes to having children through assisted reproduction, it is best to resort to legal channels. If not, we can get Julio Iglesias from sperm donation and having children with hundreds of brothers. To us, it may seem somewhat indifferent. But in the long run, this can be a problem for them. It’s best to take this into account.
