Qualcomm announced on Weibo that it will hold a launch event for a new Snadragon soc on May 20. While there are also speculations about the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, it’s most likely a refresh of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
For about six months, Qualcomm has switched to a new naming system, including generations of the 8 series in its name. Previously, three-digit numbers such as Snapdragon 855, 865 and 888 followed each other. It has been rumored for a while that Qualcomm will come with Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, a mid-range soc.
The American chip company would also work on a refresh, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ (or Plus). Previous Snapdragon socs also had a Plus variant, a refresh with minor performance improvements and tweaks compared to the base model. These models also often appeared half a year after the original release of the main variant.
