According to Chuma, in the field of telecommunications, the development of small constellations of satellites to expand the use of the Internet throughout the planet is a reality and is advancing rapidly. “The New Space Age goes beyond launching satellites and probes to gather scientific data. Today this is a relevant business opportunity that motivates private companies to invest large resources,” he adds.

“Searching for natural resources outside of our planet, such as minerals, can reduce the pressure exerted on Earth by population growth. We might even consider producing food on other stars and thereby reducing hunger in poor countries,” he comments.
Finally, the expert talks about the importance of the Moon as a support base for sustainably establishing the existence of humans outside Earth. It highlights the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) Artemis program, which aims to get people back to Earth’s natural satellite and plan future trips to Mars.

“Currently, the biggest expense for space missions is the fuel used to get rid of Earth’s gravity. Building a facility on the Moon will make subsequent expeditions much easier. And in space missions, robotic technology will be crucial, and even on other planets. It can even be used to explore natural resources and produce food,” says the engineer.
