In both March and April, prices for current generation video cards dropped by an average of 10%. We’re almost at the end of May now, which means we’re taking another look at the Product Comparator to get a better idea of the market situation. As with last month’s overview, we’re looking at the average price of the five cheapest custom models of each GPU.

Several Radeon RX 6500 XT versions can be purchased for less than 220 Euros.

While the prices of Nvidia’s Ampere cards continue to fall, we see them falling less sharply than in previous months. On average, the RTX 3000 series has only gotten 3.9% cheaper, though its suggested retail price is approaching. You currently pay an average of 20.4% above the suggested retail price, compared to +25.5% in April.

RTX 3090 Ti 2.249 2.158 2,110 -2.2% -6.2%
Total -3.9% +20.4%

The biggest price drops can be found on the cheapest GPUs: the average price of the RTX 3050 fell 9.4%, while the RTX 3060 and RTX 3080 became 7.7 percent and 5.3 percent cheaper, respectively. Remarkably, the retail prices of the RTX 3060 Ti did not fall, but rose by two tens (+3.1%). Compared to its suggested retail price, this is also the most expensive RTX 3000 GPU. RTX 3060 Ti cards are 41.3% more expensive than the suggested retail price of 439 euros.

The RTX 3090 Ti is the only card that can be purchased for less than the suggested retail price, but customers still need to deposit at least €1,999. In addition, the RTX 3080 Ti also approaches the suggested retail price by +8.3% on average, or an extra 106 euros.

As a percentage, prices for AMD’s RX 6000 series fell more sharply in May. Both the RX 6500 XT, RX 6700 XT and RX 6900 XT are 10% cheaper, contributing to an average 8.4% reduction. As a result, the RX 6500 XT can be purchased for the suggested retail price of 215 euros, while the 6900 XT comes close at +6.9%.

On the other hand, RDNA 2 cards are relatively more expensive compared to the recommended retail price due to two outliers: the RX 6800 XT is 51.5% more expensive, while the regular RX 6800 is 64.5% more expensive. This is why most RX 6800 models are more expensive than the slightly more powerful XT models. Finally, on average, you pay up to 23.2% extra for an RX 6000 GPU, or up to 12.5% without the RX 6800 and RX 6800 XT.

There was no Radeon RX 6X50 XT refresh price last month, as AMD introduced it earlier this month.

Based on these data, we can say that the decline in video card prices has slowed down a bit, but still continues. At this pace, it will take a few months for prices to match the suggested retail price, but we’ll see if this trend continues. Reportedly, Nvidia will unveil its first Lovelace GPUs in mid-July, which could also affect prices.
