Apple seeks UEFA Champions League rights

From NFL to Champions League

This year, the deal between the current rights holder, DirecTV, and the NFL is coming to an end. There seem to be many companies interested in acquiring these rights, including Disney, Amazon, and DirecTV itself. Again, Apple seems to be the closest to get them.

The report mentions that Tim Cook and Eddy Cue, Apple CEO and head of Apple Services met with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell last weekend during the Sun Valley Conference known as the “Camp for Millionaires.” And although there is no official data, they appear to be talking about the rights of the NFL. Negotiations revealed that the final price could be tripled. $3 billion a yearA price few companies are willing to pay.

But the report reveals that the NFL deal is just the beginning. It seems that both Apple and Amazon are considering making a bid to acquire the national broadcast rights. UEFA Champions Leaguesome of the rights between $2,000 and $2,500 million per year.

remember most of these deals will only be available in Apple’s home market, the United States and a few other markets. Sports rights are very complex and are administered internally in each country. For example, Apple owns the rights to Friday’s MLB game, but only appears in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Brazil, Japan, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and South Korea. Therefore, Apple TV+ may not be able to offer all of this content in most markets.
