Mobility platform Uber is currently celebrating its 10th anniversary in Colombia. In an interview with Eduardo Donnelly, the app’s new general manager in Latin America, said: the manager talked about the growth of the operation in the country and the commitment to the taxi category.
In the second quarter, Latin America grew by 30% compared to the previous quarter. Colombia, in particular, was one of the markets that saw significant growth in the region due to several factors, such as the fact that we now operate in 18 Colombian cities and this influence allows us to continue to increase our presence.
I should also mention that Colombia is among the 11 most important countries for the company worldwide. We’ve been operating here for 10 years, and Bogotá was actually the second city the platform reached in the region, after Mexico City.
We started here because we saw a great opportunity in terms of mobility and security. Throughout these years, we continue to consider the needs of all our users and hosts.
Behaviors and needs are undoubtedly different, and for this we have different alternatives that adapt to the needs of our users.
We recently introduced an Uber Deal in the country where users can mark their prices directly on the driver. We have seen this need in different cities.. In this way, we started to carry this format to other countries in the region.
Today we have 75,000 renters or drivers connecting to the platform monthly.
This alliance is now two years old in the country and we already have 15,000 registered taxi drivers. PFor us, this alliance represents a milestone in mobility and demonstrates that taxi drivers and apps can collaborate and create valuable synergies. This alternative is available in Bogotá, Medellín and Cali.
Today, Uber has expanded this alternative to other countries, thanks to the model it developed in Colombia.
Of course we felt its impact, but part of our job is to deal with such situations. We gradually increased prices between 7 percent and 13 percent. As we listen to the landlords and taxi drivers.
There is Uber Taxi and our alliance with TaxExpress has been an important milestone for us that we want to continue to promote. In addition, We have the Comfort Electric category, and it’s part of our commitment as an organization. We will be a zero-emissions company by 2040. Achieving this goal requires major innovations and partnerships. Colombia was the first country in the region to have this category. Another of the innovations we are working on focuses on security., a very important column. For this we have a full technology department specializing in security.
We are celebrating our 10th anniversary and it is very important to us how we expand our services. We know the need for mobility will not go away, but we know how we act will matter.
We work with Alianza In, a practice association in Colombia, and are in constant conversations with the National Government. and that the Republican Congress finds an adequate regulatory framework for tech companies.
Our commitment is to continue to grow across the country and we hope some of this growth will be through the taxi category.
Likewise, we work on product innovation; here we highlight the way we present prices and how we can be relevant to users who are part of our DNA.
