Spotify has announced a significant expansion of its automatic transcription offering for podcasts. The music platform plans to implement this tool in real time across “millions” of episodes.
Automated transcriptions in podcasts first available in 2021, offers listeners the option of reading the article while listening to the episodes. However, this feature was not available in all programs.
On International Podcast Day, Spotify announced these improvements to its tools that aim to improve user experience and make interacting with content easier. The company said it will implement automatic transcription of “millions” of additional episodes in the coming weeks.

Transcripts will be more accessible both visually and textually. Users will be able to scroll down the podcast playback screen on their mobile devices to access the transcript. When clicked, it will open in full screen and highlight the text playing in real time.

The company also improved its podcast episodes feature. This feature divides episodes into thematic sections, allowing users to jump directly to the part of the episode they want to listen to.
The playback screen displays a full list of episode chapters when you scroll down, making it easy to navigate and select specific content.

The platform has also updated program pages to offer users more information about an episode before listening to it.
This includes detailed descriptions, images and relevant section recommendations. These improvements are available to users around the world, both in their subscription profiles and free accounts on Spotify.
