Doctor Wilmer Mendoza Lozano, originally from Valledupar, died this Monday at the High Complexity Clinic after fighting for his life for a week.
The man suffered a serious blow to his head while celebrating Junior de Barranquilla’s goal while playing against Independiente Medellín.
Mendoza was known in the region for his extensive experience in healthcare; He has worked as a medical administrator at some EPSs in Valledupar and Cesar, worked as an in-hospital auditor, coordinator, and in recent years served as hospital general manager.
Besides his work, he also devoted his free time to a great passion: football.
But it was precisely by celebrating a goal that his life took a different direction. He had a tragic accident while watching the match between ‘The Shark’ and DIM. He slipped, fell on his back and hit his head.
The happy faces of the people around him for Junior’s goal changed as soon as they saw Mendoza fall, anxiety took over them and they immediately called the emergency room, so the man arrived at the emergency room a short time later.
He spent eight days in the Intensive Care Unit of the High Complexity Clinic, fighting for his life, but eventually losing the battle on the afternoon of December 18.

The news of his departure was also confirmed by his relatives, who expressed their pain on social media.
“Rest in peace my dear son-in-law, you know how much I love you.“No one will ever occupy that place in my heart,” said his wife’s mother, Eva Morales.
