Passwords: all about the new iOS 18 app
Create, manage and delete passwords, access keys and verification codes all in one place!
With the arrival of iOS 18, Apple has decided to give password management a more prominent place in the operating system. **The new Passwords app is a standalone app that lets you access, manage, and protect your **more easily and securely than ever.

Passwords is a feature we’ve introduced in Settings before, so some of the features may look familiar to you. In the list below, we present all the functions you can use to create or manage passwords on your devices.
Features of the iOS Passwords app
Passwords works as a standalone app since iOS 18
1. Usability
“Passwords” app Automatically installs on your iPhone, iPad or MacIt a simple and intuitive design so you can easily find what you are looking for. If you use iCloud Keychain, all your saved logins and passwords will be available in the new Passwords app when you update to iOS 18.. You will only need to authenticate with Face ID or Touch ID, that’s all.
2. Add usernames and passwords
To add usernames and passwords you need to: Tap the “+” button at the bottom of the Passwords appThe app will help you complete the information automatically. You will need to add the website name and username. Then copy and paste the password into the website or service you registered with. Click “Save” to see the change.
Need to update an existing login? Find the username you want to change in the relevant section (for example, “Everyone”). Tap it and then select “Edit”. In the editing interface, you can add notes, change password, or add verification code.
3. Change passwords
To change a password, you must follow these steps:one. Find the username whose password you want to update.2. Tap “Edit” on the relevant entry.3. Select “Change password…”
- Please note: The Passwords app will direct you to the website associated with your username and password. Once there, you’ll need to log into your account and look for the option to change your password. The password change process may vary depending on the site.
4. Delete passwords
To delete passwords in the Passwords app, follow these steps:
one. Find the password you want to remove: You can go to “All” and scroll until you find it. Or, you can use the search function to find a specific username.* From the “Everyone” overview: Swipe from right to left on the password entry, and then select “Delete.”* From the login details view: Tap “Edit,” and then tap “Delete Password.”2. Tap the “Select” icon in the upper right corner of the screen.3. Select the login information you want to delete.4. Press “Delete” to confirm.
Attention Deleted passwords are saved in a folder named “Deleted” in the Passwords app for 30 days. before it is permanently deleted.
5. Authentication codes
From passwords, you can generate two-factor authentication codes for supported websites and apps, and your logins will be further protected. To add a verification code, follow these steps:
- Open the Passwords app and go to the “Codes” section.
- Tap the “+” button to add a new code.
- Choose one of two options:
- Scan a QR code: Most websites and apps offer a QR code that you can scan with your device’s camera.
- Enter a configuration key: If the QR code is not available, you can enter the setup key provided by the website or app.
After adding the code, you can see it in the “Codes” section.

6. Access keys
Access keys or passkeys have come to replace passwords and offer you stronger protection. These are compatible with Apple devices and some websites and apps. To use them, make sure you have the following:
- A compatible Apple device (iPhone, iPad, or Mac) running iOS 16 or macOS Ventura or later.
- A website or application that supports access keys.
Passcodes are more secure than passwords and allow you to sign in to your accounts using Face ID or Touch ID authentication on an Apple device. To see all your stored passwords, go to the “Passwords” section of the “Passwords” app on your Apple device.
7. Share passwords
The Passwords app three ways to share passwords as described below:
Create a group to share passwords:
- Open the Passwords app and tap on the folder.
- Click on “New group” and give it a name.
- Select the contacts you want to add from the contact list.
Share passwords with the group:
- Select the group you want to share with.
- Select the usernames and passwords you want to share.
- Group members will be able to see shared passwords.
Attention You can delete shared usernames and passwords at any time. All group members can add their own passwords. The group’s founder can remove people at any time.
Share the password yourself:
- Find the password you want to share.
- Use the “Share Sheet” to turn on AirDrop.
- Send your username and password via AirDrop.
8. Autocomplete
Thanks to this function When you visit a website in Safari where you have stored your login information, your usernames and passwords will be entered automatically. The process works the same as when managing passwords from the Settings app.
9. Classification
Sorting options Include Publication Date, Creation Date, Website or Titleand each can be viewed in Descending or Ascending list by tapping the desired option.

10. Synchronization
Passwords are automatically synced across all your Apple devices using iCloud Keychain. To do this, you need to enable the option and sign in with your Apple ID on the device on which you want to access your passwords.
11. Security
Security section Tells you if you have a password that has been reused, is very weak, or has been compromised in an attackIt also recommends changing the password when necessary.
12. Import Password
This feature allows you to import passwords from other services like 1Password and LastPass, but it has not been implemented so far.
