The next new thing Instagram will try to please photographers

Instagram continues to promote changes across platforms, not forgetting photos or videos!

A wave of complaints from thousands of Instagram users has caused the social network to loosen some measures taken in recent weeks to leverage video content instead of traditional photos. Days later, Meta’s company set out to let photography lovers know we forgot about them. And so it introduced a new broadcast format as one of the main innovations.

According to its own CEO, Adam Mosseri, Instagram has begun testing a new photo format that will allow users to post a 9:16 image in the main feed. While the proposal replaces the existing 4:5 format in images, the new format will make them more similar to what we see in stories whenever the user wishes.

Currently, when uploading a long image as a post, the app crops it to fit an 8:10 aspect ratio. And that’s what will change. According to Mosseri.

You can have long videos, but not long photos on Instagram. So we thought we should make sure we treat both equally.

Instagram is testing a new format for posting photos

A few weeks ago, a group of Instagram users, including sibling duo Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian, joined a petition calling for “Make Instagram Instagram again” and “Stop trying to be TikTok”. The campaign was created by a group of photographers about the loss of importance of still images in the service.

And although the company has confirmed that the video format will be very important on the social network, for now, everything indicates that the changes will happen gradually, apparently taking into account the approval of users.
