Few things are as frustrating as when computer stops bootingespecially in the middle of the workday, when the ability to respond quickly becomes essential.

While a computer that won’t boot may appear to be broken without any fixes, it could be that a replaceable part is damaged. With the following suggestions, you can find the source of the fault in your computer and so you know what to fix at your next maintenance.

One of the things that can get damaged on your laptop is the power supply, either because the battery is bad or the port on the motherboard is no longer handling the power it receives. You can determine if this is battery damage if you follow the steps below:

1. Remove the battery from your laptop.

2. Next, connect your computer to a working electrical outlet.

3. First, please confirm that the outlet is working by connecting it to another device.

4. If it works, the problem is not in the socket.

5. If you can turn on your laptop without the battery installed, the problem is with the battery, not the power supply.

6. You will need to get a new one, but in the meantime you can only use AC power.

There is no risk in using a computer without a battery, it will lose its quality as a laptop as it always has to be connected to a power source.

After determining that there is no problem with the battery, there may be damage to the screen. To test the operation of the display, it is important to disconnect all devices outside the computer, as they can interrupt the power-up sequence of the equipment.

1. If the power button is on and you can hear the fan or other noise, but there is no image on the screen, please turn off the lights to see if it appears, albeit dimly.

2. If you see a dim image with the lights off, the display inverter is faulty and will need to be replaced.

3. Another possibility is that the brightness button is broken.

If the laptop turns on but no image appears, the LCD panel may be defective. However, due to their high cost, repairing a cracked screen is not impossible. It may be more appropriate to invest in a new piece of equipment rather than replace that part.

If none of these options explain why your laptop is on, you can try these other options.

1. Disconnect all devices such as USB or external hard drives. The computer may not boot because it is trying to find the BIOS from that memory source.

2. To detect if you are a victim of any virus, you can ask an expert to boot the computer with a recovery disc containing the blank program.

3. You can reboot into safe mode, which allows you to uninstall programs or drivers that affect the computer’s proper functioning.

4. Finally, in the hands of an expert, the hardware of the equipment can be examined as a whole to determine if there is any damage to the motherboard, any of the ports of the computer, or parts of it.
