Recently, many messages have appeared on Reddit from owners of MSI Ventus and PNY cards whose 12VHPWR and 12V–2×6 connectors have melted, including both branded adapters and power supply cables.
Some users describe months of random crashes and screen flickering, resulting in complete video card failure.
In most cases, the cables had characteristic signs of overheating at one or more contacts. Problems are especially noted with MSI’s yellow connectors, which, according to users, are easier to identify visually by carbonization.
Even with moderate load and low power consumption (about 450 W), overheating situations are repeated. Experts recommend using standard ATX 3.1 power supply cables, avoiding bends in the connector and not mixing cables from different manufacturers.
The first signs of overheating – screen flickering, black screen or sudden reboots – are a reason to immediately stop using the card and check the connector.
