Fans of Marvel and its Cinematic Universe can look forward to the story of how Jane Foster becomes mighty Thorbe very similar to Thor: Love and Thunder to what we saw in the comics. This was announced by Taika Waititi, director and main screenwriter of the film.

But later, in Thor: God of Thunder #25, she takes Mjolnir to become the main character. Much later, between 2014 and 2015, Foster had his own storyline that started mighty Thorwith Jason Aaron as writer and Russell Doterman as artist.
Jane Foster becomes mighty Thor after the Marvel event known as Original Without, in which Odinson ceases to be worthy of wielding Mjolnir. During his transformation, he will also have to go through a battle with cancer and work hand in hand with the Avengers.

Taika Waititi explained in an interview Total Magazine that the idea is to stay very true to the original Jane Foster events in the comics. “We got pretty close to Jane’s story arc and what happens to her. Since it all has a big impact on the whole movie, we tried to take the best parts of her story.”
He also assures that although fans believe that this is a way to pass the baton from Chris Hemsworth to Natala Portman, this should not be expected. “I suspect a lot of people would think that, but while I don’t know Marvel’s plans for the future, that’s not necessarily the case.”
Thor: Love and Thunder happens after the events Thor: Ragnarok in which Asgard is destroyed. Then the Grandmaster’s ship, with all the survivors from the planet on its way to Earth, is boarded by Thanos, killing half of the passengers. After graduation Avengers: EndgameThor seems to be searching for his inner peace, meets a new villain, Gorr, and is reunited with Jane Foster, who now has Mjolnir in her hands.
