“It was part of the plan. We wanted to have a grand opening that was like the movie. James Bond, where it’s an action adventure at the beginning of the film and then it slows down a little bit,” DeLeeuw explains. His job as director was to take the story after this adventure and give it a coherent continuation. “This is something we designed specifically for this. We had the idea that we could then slow the pace down and spend time with our characters and see where they are and how they change from the first season,” he suggests, without revealing the details of his episode. The premiere will take place in Disney+ October 13, the night of the 12th in Latin America.

Another series
Despite being connected to the rest of the Marvel Universe, Loki He has a different aura. More casual fans can enjoy this without even seeing or reading the entire story that precedes it. DeLeeuw He thinks the key is that it’s a story similar to a movie, but with a lot more time to develop. “Loki is unique in the sense that even though you can take a character you grew up with and spend a small amount of time with him. [en una película], it’s only two hours. This is the degree of character development,” says the director.
“But with Loki and the incredible characters in the series, you can spend more time while still being very cinematic. It’s a very cinematic style of filming, but you can take a very complex character and delve into his personality, his character. And based on the events that happen around them, to really see their development in a way that you can’t see in a film,” says the director.
In its turn, Wright makes a difference in the freedom they have on a creative level to create Loki under his own vision. “In the two seasons that I directed, neither I nor any of the directors who worked on them felt any restrictions. The fact that one of our main characters is an animated talking clock speaks for itself,” the producer laughs, “We always felt like we could do whatever we wanted and go wherever we wanted. And part of the fun is using it to go to unexpected places.”

Anyway, Wright shares that there is a limitation that they themselves have set, precisely so that this freedom does not work against them. “For us, the restrictions or restrictions just came from: Is this right for our characters or are we just doing this because it would be silly and fun? We wanted to make sure that whatever we did would add drama to the character. It could happen in an unexpected, stupid, funny or shocking way, but it was always meant to be… It was the only condition for the job. It just had to be driven by the drama of the character. But once this is done, we can go wherever we want.
Good Loki, bad Loki
Thanks to his series, fans were able to empathize much more with Loki, who became a hero in the midst of a temporal but also moral war. “The show is based on philosophy, and this season talks more about free will and fate. Self-determination and so on. It’s very interesting to apply these concepts to the character and his lifestyle because he is a complex person,” he reflects. DeLeeuwy.
“He started out as a villain, but a villain who is aware of his abilities. Unlike Thanos, who is a true believer, Loki does this out of envy, suffering, not being able to spend enough time with his parents… As the series progresses, you see how he changes,” the director adds. However, he admits that they are not wanted to completely lose the essence of what made it so special.
“He still has some of that dark side. “Especially in season two, we wanted to make sure that even though it seems like he left a lot of that behind in season one, he knows there’s still a part of him that has that dark side and he can access it,” he suggests. . DeLeeuwy. Thus, it ultimately seems like the new installment will delve deeper into its protagonist’s feelings of acceptance, striking a balance between both aspects.

VFX and production design
At the moment, Marvel is facing an unprecedented challenge within the company. Special effects workers have decided to unionize after long denouncing poor working conditions. To add to this, fans have not hesitated to criticize the poor finishing of some projects due to the lack of time of their staff. However, in Loki the result is extraordinary.
“If there’s one thing we’ve always prioritized in the first season of Loki, it’s obviously the visual effects and production design. Cinematography has always been very important to me,” says Wright. “The thing is, all the people who run these departments are true artists, and they can make something as good as the tools you give them,” the producer defends.
“If I talk to my production designer and he wants to build a big set, it will take time. You will have to adjust your schedule to give them room for the things they are going to build. If you want your operator to do everything great, it takes time. And sometimes that means you may have fewer feedings throughout the day,” illustrates Wright. Philosophy that Loki continued the letter so that the series would not be incomplete on a technical and visual level.

“We are all communicating with all departments. What do we want it to look like? How do we want it to be? And you make these decisions in advance so that your special effects artists have enough time to do their job as best as possible. So if you want everything to look great, you really just need to manage your time correctly,” says the producer. This is fundamental in Loki, since the environment in which the main characters operate plays no less important role than they themselves. Especially AVT.

“This world, AVT, is another character for us. That was very important, and the fact that the audience accepted that in the first season allowed us to take it further in the second season. I think this inspired a lot of department heads because they felt like their hard work was paying off,” the creative says. I watched the entire first season and the beginning of the second, mission accomplished. Loki managed to become a haven of light and hope for fans Marvel. Season 2 will maintain a weekly premiere schedule every Thursday through Friday night for six consecutive weeks.
