The Hunger Games is getting a new prequel, and it’s coming to theaters sooner than you thought.

Lionsgate has confirmed that it is preparing new prequel to The Hunger Games. The film, based on the upcoming novel by Suzanne Collins, will be released in late 2026 and will be directed by Francis Lawrence. The next movie will be released after the release The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakesa feature film that brought back one of the most beloved fantasy sagas by fans.

According to a report from Diversitynew prequel to The Hunger Games will be based on the book Dawn during harvest Collins, author of the novels that launched the franchise. Lionsgate said the feature film will be released in theaters on November 20, 2026, one year after the book’s release.

Prequel will be located 24 years before the events that occurred in The Hunger Games and 40 years later The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Adam Fogelson, head of Lionsgate, admitted that the previous film “opened up an endless number of opportunities” for Collins and the studio to pursue.

“Suzanne Collins is a master storyteller and our creative mentor,” Fogelson said. “We could not be more fortunate than to have the leadership and trust of an employee whose talent and imagination are always brilliant.”
