In both literature and cinema, one of the key aspects of character building is dialogue. Specific sentences and words that serve to describe their imaginary and personality. Based on this logic, how is it possible for a character who only says “I’m Groot” to be outside of the narrative? He did this until he had his own side project guardians of the galaxyand the attention of not a few followers.

Part of this answer is offered in I am Groot, a series of short films presented by Disney+. They tell about the various adventures of the character in a short format (each chapter does not exceed five minutes). Through these episodes, part of the childhood of the character, who first appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume I; in the one that sacrificed itself, and then turned into a branch. The adaptation highlights a key aspect of the protagonist’s communication: his gestures and intonation.

This little piece of wood grew with the productions that followed his debut film. He billed himself as “Baby Groot”, one of the most touching characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This series does not represent a before and after in his story, but it can be understood as a farewell to the character. In the next issue guardians of the galaxy, Volume 3 he will be seen at an age closer to that at which he sacrificed himself.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is at a time when its own flow of time is being questioned. With three phases set in the collective imagination, a fourth in development and two more confirmed, how is it possible to create products that are unlike each other and at the same time serve to continue building this mega story? This explains his interest in the television format, from WandaVisionand animation via What happens if…?. This line goes I am Groot.

In these animated shorts, the character is shown as one who through Instagram, shows your baby’s first steps. The protagonist explores the size of his tiny body, its capabilities, and also experiences some risks from the outside world. This series of five short chapters is set in or around the time Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. and don’t have much of an impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I am Groot It refers to animated content designed to explore new formats. This trip tells part of the childhood of one of the most endearing characters in the entire story. farewell begins

Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy

Groot’s fascination with the Marvel Cinematic Universe began when he sacrificed himself for his comrades in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 1 and was reduced to a small branch. He grew up and became the teenager he is today. Meanwhile, viewers were touched by his emotional displays with the phrase “I’m Groot” as a medium. By the tone and gestures of this bush, one could understand, for example, whether he was upset or not. Another example of how cinema, in its endless possibilities, can build character without a common verbal language with the viewer.

I am Groot it is something that is in the range of normal circumstances in which the character finds himself. For example, when he discovers a mud pit, bathes in it and it blooms. Survive the attack of the cosmic plague by building a house from your own branches, which was destroyed by a bird. I’m trying to draw a picture guardians of the galaxy, blowing up part of the ship. That last chapter, in which he honors those who care for him as a child, is the sweetest. Also one that has more to do with the whole story.

Groot is presented as an innocent, immature, spoiled creature. But fragile and charming in the eyes Rocket (voice Bradley Cooper), the only Guardian to appear during the short chapter saga. I am Groot, available August 10 on Disney Plus, is a nod to the charismatic character’s past. The staging serves to recall some of the dynamics of these characters. Those who are in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, they will say goodbye, perhaps in the same way that Disney and Marvel say goodbye to Baby Groot’s early years, emotionally and entertainingly.
