In 2018, 12 teammates from the same soccer team decide to spend an afternoon with their coach to explore the Tham Luang Caves in northern Thailand. When torrential rains flood the caves, trapping them inside, what should have been a fun excursion turns into a massive international rescue mission that has enchanted the world. Now this amazing story comes to life in Thai Cave Rescue – Rescue yourself from the cave through the unprecedented perspectives of the young people at the heart of the mission. Netflix has collaborated with directors in Thailand and around the world on this new series, which will debut to global audiences on September 22, 2022: here are the official photos from the series.

Filmed entirely in Thailand, the series features unprecedented perspectives from the young players of a local soccer team and their experiences on the verge of human endurance, as well as those of their families and the massive international team that took part in the rescue. Conceived by Michael Russell Gunn (Billions, Designated Survivor) and Dana Ledoux Miller (Designated Survivor, Narcos), the six-episode miniseries directed by Baz Poonpiriya (One for the Road, Bad Genius) and Kevin Tancharoen (The Brothers Sun, The Book by Boba Fett, Warrior) presents a dramatized version of the incredible rescue operation that kept the world in suspense in 2018.

Both directors are also executive producers alongside Jon M. Chu (Dreaming in New York – In the Heights, Crazy & Rich, GI Joe – Revenge) for Electric Somewhere; John Penotti (Crazy & Rich) for SK Global Entertainment; John Logan Pierson (Spenser Confidential, Boston – Manhunt, Try to Challenge Me); Lance Johnson (Crew Zero, The Equalizer); and Tim Coddington (Mulan, Crazy & Rich, Marco Polo).

We started writing the series at the beginning of the COVID-19 lockdowns in the United States. It was especially comforting to tell a story that poignantly reminds us that while differences in language, faith, or socioeconomic status often set us apart, the hope and resilience of the human spirit are universal. After all, we are all at the mercy of nature.
