Speaking with Rolling Stone the author Neil Gaiman had his say on the project regarding the film the sandman never made. Speaking of that feature film, Gaiman called it “the worst script I’ve ever read”.

Behind the project was producer Jon Peters, a controversial character already linked to the production of the never-made film about Superman’s death. Gaiman, focusing on the feature film that was never made on The Sandman, said:

A giant mechanical spider was included in the project, and then Lucifer, Morpheus, and Corinthian were three similar brothers, competing for the ruby, helmet, and sandbag before the end of 1999. The story was this. . There was nothing I loved, it was the worst script I could ever read.

Gaiman solved the problem by submitting the script to the Ain’t It Cool News site, which after it was published online, ruined the project. And on why Peters was interested in Sandman, Gaiman replied:

Apparently he saw a statue of Morpheus and that seemed interesting to him.

Netflix’ Sandman, on the other hand, will be available on the streaming platform from August 5.
