in the series Rings of Power, which you can already see on Prime Video, Sauron’s symbol seems to be everywhere. it a clear connection not only with the literary epic, but also with J. R. R. Tolkien’s perception of evil. As the darkness incarnate seems to reach Middle-earth, its signs become more obvious and direct. Something that the script emphasized from the first chapters, although it was in the fourth that it showed its true importance.

In the production, Sauron is a menacing and hidden presence. The script has tried to keep his identity a secret so far, but explores the possibility that the embodiment of evil is already part of the plot. A point which, moreover, is emphasized by following its elusive trace through a mysterious and inexplicable symbol. An ingenious way to make it clear that the main villain is on the move and looking for an all-out confrontation.

But, Does the sign of Sauron have any meaning? Apart from the traces of shadows he leaves behind, this points to the future of the series. The most interesting thing is how he will connect the facts he tells with those already known about the dark figure. Will there be obvious parallels between the Jackson version and the Prime Video version? Or is this a red herring and Sauron is actually less than a shadow? Not everything is so simple and, perhaps, this is one of the most relevant narrative threads of the production.

A label to complete the sinister puzzle Rings of Power

In the first two episodes Rings of Power, Sauron’s imprint appeared in scenarios separated from each other by years. The first time was in the skin of the corpse of Finrod, Galadriel’s elder brother. The warrior faced the villain and was killed. As a final insult, the creature left a wound on his shoulder that turned out to be something else. As the scene showed, it was about concrete line diagram. Something that did not go unnoticed by his sister. “Evil left a mark on his skin,” Galadriel assured in tense sequence.

In fact, thanks to the Elf we find the symbol again. Galadriel, who, in her words, “did her job” on Finrod’s side, roams Middle-earth in search of Sauron. Her journey takes her to Forodwaith, the ruined fortress where the orcs hid after they defeated Morgoth. There, he finds the symbol in various places, and also feels the presence of evil in its engraving. What leaves no doubt is that this is more than just a random design. Corrupted Maya has a special imprint that also affects the environment.

In the same chapter, Theo, son of Bronwyn, the healer of the Southlands, discovers the mark on the hilt of a broken sword. Like Galadriel in Forodwaith, the design makes her have a vision. In her, you can see him on fire floating in total darkness. An image very similar to how Peter Jackson conceived Sauron for his film trilogy.

Until then, the mysterious symbol seemed like something of a tidbit among the show’s dozens of references to Tolk’s mythology. But the third and fourth episodes make it clear what is really Sauron manifests his power through a mysterious drawing. And, if that wasn’t enough, it also proves that the creature’s ambition includes a grand plan.

Darkness in Middle-earth

For the third chapter Rings of PowerGaladriel discovers that the badge is more than just an emblem or badge of belonging. While in Numenor, Elendil tells him about the experience of being a human spy.

Rings of Tolkien's Power

It was about a man who remained in the power of Morgoth and managed to gather information about his plans. But he also did something else. He wrote down what he saw during the abduction and managed to compile a chronology of events.. Which, to Galadriel’s surprise, also contained a drawing. Symbol of Sauron.

It’s just not just that. In fact, this is a map of the Southlands, which confirms that Morgoth made certain plans. On the one hand, the most appropriate strategy for expanding their holdings from distant and less explored places by elves. On the other hand, a specific plan to create your own kingdom. After the Dark Lord’s defeat, his lieutenant was tasked with an elaborate task.

Horror embodied in Rings of Power

But it is in the fourth episode that it becomes apparent that Sauron’s mark is also related to his power. This is what a quick conversation between a man from a southern city and Theo reveals in the midst of a tense situation. Before, the whole village was forced to flee due to the attack of the orcs and he took refuge in the midst of his misfortunes at the guard post of the elves.

In an increasingly dangerous situation, Theo decides to return to the ruins of where he lived in order to find food. there when makes an ominous discovery about the broken hilt he carries around. It is a sword with a fiery blade that manifests in all its strange power as soon as he touches it. Also leaves his skin marked with the famous symbol of Sauron.

After a few hours everything gets darker. After Arondir saves him and his mother from an orc attack, Theo discovers he has a secret to keep. But he’s not the only one. One of the men from his village takes his hand and exposes his skin. Theo then remarks that marked with a symbol he wears on his wrist.

“All signs point to it, it is already here, it has come. Have you heard of Sauron? says the old man, to Theo’s horror. So it’s clear that the sign of evil embodied in Middle-earth is a continuation of its influence. Even worse, a clear demonstration of his ability to deal damage and manipulate in several different directions.
