The first image of Matilda Lutz as the main character of Red Sonja. The film is an adaptation of the character created by Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith in the Conan the Barbarian comics in the early 1970s.

The feature was developed by Millennium Media, directed by MJ Bassett, who will be working on an adaptation written by Joey Soloway and Tasha Huo. The character was previously brought to the screen for a 1985 film starring Brigitte Nielsen.

MJ Bassett said:

I’ve wanted to make this movie since I was a teenager, because Red Sonja is a very powerful figure, and I’ve always wanted to identify with this character.

The Red Sonja cast also stars Wallis Day as Annisia and Robert Sheehan as Draygan. Other names include Michael Bisping as Hawk, Martyn Ford as General Karlak, Eliza Matengu as Amarak, Manal El Feitury as Ayala and Katrina Durden as Saevus.

Red Sonja is a character born in the Dynamite Entertainment comics, based on the stories of Robert E. Howard from Conan the Barbarian.
