It seems that DC Movies with Black Adam tried to push the boundaries, to the point where the film was initially classified as R-rated, or prohibited for minors. Producers Beau Flynn and Hiram Garcia talked about it.

The MPAA initially classified Black Adam as restricted to minors, and the producers said:

We wanted the character to be really respected and honored. And we knew his aggression and violence had to come out, and making a movie without those characteristics wouldn’t be authentic. We had to go as far as we could, and we knew there would be a partnership with the MPAA to find out how far we could go, that we could get to that classification, but we were also able to remove it. We wanted to go that far, and Dwayne wanted it too.

And, from what the producers revealed, it took four steps to the MPAA to reach the PG-13 rating, although the spirit of the character seems to have remained intact. Additionally, Beau Flynn and Hiram Garcia made sure that a portion of that R-Rated version will be revealed to the public before the Black Adam Home Video release.

Black Adam hits theaters October 20.
