Since February, the proportion of defective chips and components that China supplies to Russian companies has increased from 2% to 40%, Kommersant reports, citing an electronics market source.

China began supplying Russian companies with up to 40% defective microchips

The publication’s interlocutor claims that this trend is due to a breakdown in cooperation between foreign dealers and Russian partners. As a result, companies in the Russian Federation are forced to look for unofficial suppliers.

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce indicated that they did not register an increase in the supply of defective components.

As a senior manager at a major Russian electronics manufacturer clarified, there had previously been component shortages due to logistical difficulties during the pandemic. Today, according to him, the sanctions have exacerbated the problem.

To keep up the pace of production, companies are forced to buy components from unauthorized suppliers who do not guarantee product quality, the source explained.

Previously, the Russian manufacturer of computer equipment Kraftway signed a contract with the Chinese YMTC for the mass production of memory controllers.
