Short, medium and long term future DC Extended Universe takes shape. James Gunn D Peter Saffron are working on a multi-year program that includes various productions based on the comics of this franchise. This is a calendar that, if properly designed, will solve one of the unresolved problems in this narrative: the lack of a clear meaning.
Journalist Aaron Coach had access to information outlining a list of eight to ten years of stories inspired by DC comics. This is a plan that includes not only film production, but also other branches of the franchise. The immediate reference is what was done in Marvel Cinematic Universethe most important and commercially successful mega story to date.
The reporter obtained this information from Hollywood Reporter voices of the members, James Gunn and Peter Safran. They were recently named as being responsible for a sort of re-creation of the DC Extended Universe. His appointment came in a confusing environment for the franchise, marked by irregular projects punctuated by the personal problems of some of the actors, among other factors that sapped power and prestige.
The new plan for the DC Extended Universe
One of the axes on which this phase of the DC Extended Universe (and other offshoots of the company) will rotate will be in tell the same story from different points of view. The most direct reference to this in superhero movies is Infinity Saga Marvel Cinematic Universe. Different films merged into one, which, in turn, opened another stage within the story. James Gunn and Peter Safran want to build something similar.
In statements reflected by Aaron Coach for Hollywood ReporterPeter Safran said, “This is a unique opportunity to tell a great, overarching story through films, TV games, live action and animation.” For his part, Gann developed this idea:
“(We have) the ability to make DC the best it can be and the way it should be. That’s why I’m doing this job, because I know that Peter and I can do it. We have spent the last few days with a group of the best thinkers and writers in the industry. we begin to plan for eight to ten years of what it will look like in the theater, on television, in animation, in all areas for these characters.“.
David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery recently commented on the company’s desire to add value to its various franchises. He said this referring to stories such as Harry Potter D Lord of the Rings. He also questioned the fact that so much time had passed without Superman having a second production. Both James Gunn and Peter Safran will concede Zaslava at this stage.
The DC Extended Universe of comics has some of the most important figures in comics. These are figures who position themselves in pop culture as references and already have some adaptations in cinema. Some of them are Batman, Superman or Wonder Woman. However, there is a sense that there is still a lot of potential to be exploited.
