AT Worst neighbor in the worldOtto (Tom Hanks) wants to be left alone. So much so that he remains secluded and isolated during the first part of the film. In fact, David Magee’s script immediately clarifies something very specific. He gets angry at everyone around him and especially at his hated neighbors. For reasons – or maybe for some really good reasons – the character is hostile to what lies outside the door of his house.

From a long collection of scathing criticisms of the lifestyle of his neighbors to the behavior of the human species as a whole. For Otto, everyday life is a collection of broken hearts, which he expresses with a caustic, cynical sneer that is gratifying. However, Magee’s script quickly abandons the character’s surly vision in favor of more banal places. Gradually, in a row memory not too experienced, makes it clear that a few decades ago he was a good person.

At least someone who is interested in life and is willing to give dirty and ridiculous behavior a chance. Premise Worst neighbor in the world it ends, of course, with a deepening of the pain. Otto is hurt by recent widowhood., abandoned by hope and convinced that there will be no stimulus in the coming years. It’s amazing how Tom Hanks manages to turn this topical character into an intellectual concept of disappointment and suffering.

And he does this without letting the sentimentality, which borders on disturbing frequency, become the highlight of his performance. Otto is full of anger and pain. And, meanwhile, deep anxiety due to the fact that he does not understand what the next step is when his life has lost its meaning.

Once upon a time there was a sad man

The point, of course, is love. Sonya (Rachel Keller), whose death left Otto with a closed sense of isolation from the world, is a memory. But it’s also the cornerstone of understanding how a character’s behavior is actually a series of small dimensions of anxiety.

Interestingly, unlike the Swedish version of the film – A man named Uwe, Hannes Holm – the theme of mourning is not central. Actually, this is one of many elements that allow us to understand Otto and his rejection of kindness. Even his refusal to believe that life has more to offer than the long, endless days he spends in silence.

This loner, who had been like this since his youth, believed that his version of kindness and emotionality depended on Sonya. The detail that Worst neighbor in the world rides through a deliberately embellished image of the past. Otto, played by Truman Hanks by wise decision thirty or forty years ago, had just as little social gifts as he does today. But the need to express deep feelings forced him to reshape his point of view on the world and society. “I always suspected that humanity is idiotic, it hurts to confirm this”complains old Otto.

Hanks is experienced enough to explore Otto’s behavior as an emotional component. And also how love, which allowed him to be more open, now forces him into a circle of antipathy. But little by little, this human tribe that surrounds him – and that he rejects so strongly – begins to become his connection point to the opportunity to start over. Can I be any man again? he asks himself with some urgency. Otto is bewildered by the destruction of everything he thought was important. Because of the changes that are taking place and destroying every element of his personality.

But despite his good intentions, Worst neighbor in the world it doesn’t match the intuitive intelligence that Hanks brings to his character. Particularly when it becomes apparent in the second part that the argument leads to a great redemption. Instead of digging into Otto – and the deep landscape the actor created for his character – he ends up going through banal places.

Worst neighbor in the world it tells several layers of everyday history, which is supported by its apparent simplicity. Butthe hint of complexity is so clumsy and obvious that it is not convincing. Much rarer, complex or well built. Eventually, the film turns into another of many epics about time, loss, and eradication.

Was something like this needed? Worst neighbor in the world, a film that interested Otto so much that it became the center of several interesting questions about life and death? It is certainly a missed opportunity, devoid of emotion and true exploration of its highlights.

Clumsy hope for Worst neighbor in the world

The premise of a wounded and angry person who only needs a chance is common in the most intimate and auteur cinema. Mark Foster tried to convey this idea to a more friendly, general layer, and for this reason Worst neighbor in the world lost the sense of uniqueness. Despite Tom Hanks’ attempts to imbue his character with character, he seems to disappear at trivial plot twists.

Despite this, the film keeps the cliché at the center of its trend, which is of great interest. Evolution – silent and well played by Hanks – Otto at his best. Undoubtedly one of the great successesWorst neighbor in the world.
