Epic Games woke up from a millionaire’s dream. After announcing the layoff of 830 employees and the sale of two subsidiaries, the company confirmed price increase in V-Bucks Fortnite. Virtual currency will be more expensive in Spain, the USA, Japan and a number of European countries.
The company announced that it will adjust the price of V-Bucks (V-coins) and package offerings purchased with real money. The measure will come into force starting October 27, 2023 with surcharges reaching 10 euros. The price of a package of 1000 V-Bucks will increase from 7.99 to 8.99 euros, and the price of a package of 13,500 V-Bucks will increase from 79.99 to 89.99 euros.
Epic said the adjustments were made to take into account economic factors such as inflation and currency fluctuations. The increase will affect all eurozone countries, Denmark, Hungary, Japan, Norway, Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania, Sweden, Turkey and the USA. This will also impact businesses that use US dollars as a payment method.
Price changes in V-Bucks are not uncommon in Fortnite, as Epic typically makes adjustments based on the economics of each region. The latest example occurred in July when Mexico has reduced the cost of virtual currency due to the stability of the peso against the dollar.
