Star Wars: Outlaws will be released later than expected

Bad news for fans of the intergalactic saga. Star Wars Outlaws, an open-world game developed by Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment, will release later than expected. The French company initially planned to launch it in the current financial year. That is, until March 2024. However, the team needs more time to complete it and its arrival has been postponed to the next financial year – from April 2024 to March 2025.

The unpleasant information was revealed by Ubisoft itself during its financial report for the second fiscal quarter of 2023 (via VGK). An interesting point: the company does not directly mention Star Wars Outlaws like a game that has been damaged. However, given that it was planned for the first months of next year, it is not difficult to conclude that this is exactly what we are talking about.

“The company has decided to launch another big game in fiscal year 2024-25 to maximize value creation.”

Are we surprised? To be honest, no. In fact, when it became known that Star Wars Outlaws was planned for the first quarter of 2024, it was difficult to believe that it could be completed on time.

Ubisoft isn’t the most reliable company when it comes to sticking to initial windows or release dates. We can check this with Avatar: Pandora’s Frontiers, Beyond Good and Evil 3 or remake Prince of Persia: The Sands of Timeand these are just a few of them.

Ubisoft, however, can justify itself by saying that Star Wars Outlaws I didn’t have a specific date yet. On the other hand, the development is in charge of Massive Entertainment, the studio that is also responsible for Avatar: Pandora’s Frontiers. Making two games of this scale and with such close release dates was a mission impossible.

Surely after Avatar: Pandora’s Frontiers will be released on December 7, 2023, Massive will finally be able to fully concentrate on finishing and polishing Star Wars Outlaws. The good news is that significant progress Star Wars Outlaws shown during Xbox Showcase 2023 looks very promising. This will be the first time that a video game in the franchise takes place in a completely open world with various planets to explore.
