Microsoft has been changing the strategy of its gaming division for some time now. “Xbox on every screen” already says a lot about the company’s intentions: a desire to bring not only its Game Pass to every possible device, but also to begin offering games to its most direct competitors. However, everything seems to indicate that some of the games will be available on PS5 and Switch. This won’t be Xbox’s only surprise this year.

As the company hinted in yesterday’s announcement, they are also exploring new hardware options. Or rather, its new hardware, since Xbox has hinted that we will see a new console at the end of 2024.

The first major possibility that is being considered is an update to the current Xbox line-up: launching a more powerful console, a sort of Series X Pro, in line with the rumored PS5 Pro, and updating its Series S, which will be more in line with the demands of the market and the constraints that today developers face. Xbox says the next console will be the most powerful in history.

Under what conditions and with what capabilities is a mystery. On the other hand, there are rumors about the release of a portable Xbox console. It could go the way of the PlayStation Portal: a memoryless laptop designed not only for use with consoles, but also for cloud gaming. Or vice versa: console halfway between Switch or Streamdeckwith games available locally and the ability to play games streamed through Game Pass.

Xbox Handheld for Game Pass

The market has already shown that there is a place for this type of console. Major PC makers like Asus or accessory makers like Logitech have already brought to market their vision of handheld consoles targeting mixed local/streaming and streaming-only games, so this is a market that This could bring a lot of benefits to Xbox.

If we also add a mobile game from King or Activision like Warzone Mobile into the equation, things get more interesting. However, there are no details yet on what route Xbox will take for its portable console.

All we know, and not for sure, is that it will be released later this year, the same date that, by the way, there are rumors about the extension of the Nintendo Switch. So, whether it’s a traditional console or a portable one, the video game market is poised to end the year with a bang.
