Sony listened to public opinion and finally provided PlayStation Portal with the most requested function: play PS5 games directly from the cloud. The Japanese have released a software update for their remote player, which includes the ability to access more than 120 games via Cloud streaming from PlayStation Plus.
Without a doubt, this is welcome news for users, as this feature expands the capabilities of PlayStation Portal. The biggest criticism of the device was its limited capabilities, which only allowed locally installed video games to be played on the PS5 while the console was turned on.
With the addition of streaming PS5 games from the cloud, the PlayStation Portal has become even more versatile. With this addition, players will be able to access a catalog of compatible games from Sony’s servers. This means you can play from the cloud even if you don’t have a PlayStation 5 at your disposal.
Still an experimental feature
Unfortunately, history is not without some “buts” that cannot be ignored. The first thing we must highlight is that cloud streaming for the PlayStation Portal is available as beta and that at the moment we are talking about experimental function. This means that it may have bugs or not work correctly until the final version is released.
The second point to consider is that cloud streaming of PS5 games will only be offered in countries. which offers the PlayStation Plus Premium plan. Therefore, it is initially available only in 30 markets, including Spain.
Other issues to consider:
- Cloud Streaming only provides access to games from the PlayStation Plus Premium catalog. Sony has not yet allowed the use of the PlayStation Portal to play PS5 games purchased from the PlayStation Store from the cloud.
- PS4 and PS3 games are not supported on the PlayStation Portal via cloud streaming.
- The ability to play from the cloud is not available for child accounts. Additionally, some features such as microtransactions and 3D audio are not supported.
How to activate Cloud Streaming on the PlayStation Portal

If you have PlayStation Portal and want to play PS5 games from the cloud, you’ll need a PSN account and an active PlayStation Plus Premium subscription. Once you have updated your device software to the latest version, you should go to Quick menu and enter Settings. In this section you will find a section Cloud gaming (beta) and when accessing it you will have to activate it manually.
Once you’ve completed these simple steps, you’re ready to start playing. Please note that quick access to PS5 game streaming will be added to the PlayStation Portal home screen.
According to Sony, the PlayStation Plus Premium catalog provides access to more than 120 PS5 games directly from its servers. Among them stand out Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart And Ghost of Tsushima. Cloud Streaming Beta Lets You Play maximum resolution 1080p, 60 frames per second. Of course, you must ensure that you have a Wi-Fi connection of at least 13 Mbps to guarantee this quality.
