I can’t wait for game consoles to disappear (and become something else)

I had a little creative block last week. Yes, writing two to three device reviews every week is a process that requires focus, data gathering, and some storytelling, and let’s just say I wasn’t very good at it.

So, I spent an indecisive day to organize at home what I had long wanted to change. I called companies to pick up already analyzed devices, moved things, threw boxes away … in short, what is a home setup.

And one thing I did was move the consoles. I have all the ones that came out on the market and I like the way they look. Not because of the visits, it doesn’t matter to me because the Xbox Series X is not very aesthetically pleasing and the PS5 looks like a huge router next to the TV, but because of me.

The problem is that at that time the organizations both take up a lot and prevent me from putting other things in more aesthetic positions upgrade your TV cabinet, organize your cables and, in the end, optimize your space.

I also have a Chromecast 2020 in my living room, along with a Stadia. I use Stadia less than I’d like, but when I saw how much the console reorganization cost me, I saw how little the Chromecast took, and the Digimon Survive arrived (which I have to put on a shelf full of games and figurines) I said to myself… “How tired I am of the physical format”.

And don’t get me wrong, I love seeing physical games on my shelf from both my current consoles and those from my childhood or PC, but as a staunch advocate of the physical format, I think the digital game is the best. the one I love the most. It fits, and not only for video games, but also for consoles.

Stadia is a platform that will, for better or worse, elevate its gaming business model, but there are two things that are undeniable:

🤯 Visually, the games are fantastic because they run on powerful PCs.

👾Games are fine. Very very good.

As I said, you may like it more or less, but you have next-gen video games like Cyberpunk 2077 or Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and you don’t need to buy a top PC or console, which, in addition to the initial investment, takes place.

But it’s not just about Stadia. Right now, you don’t need an Xbox Series X to play Xbox Series X. thanks to Game Pass Ultimate.

On your Android, iOS, PC, or Mac device, you can access the Microsoft service and yes, the resolution is not 4K and you need a very good connection, but if you meet this requirement, you can play the Xbox perfectly without buying an Xbox.

What the heck if it’s even an app on some TVs and you have the platform at home as well as on your mobile phone with on-screen touch controls or a Razer-like remote, for example when you go on vacation to a hotel.

The PlayStation is a bit behind here, but with PlayStation Plus Extra you can play certain games (like on PS3) directly via streaming. I’ve been streaming FEAR on my PS5 this weekend and it’s going well.

The truth is that, as I said, I don’t use Stadia as much as I would like, but for example, I play a lot from my mobile with Kishi V2 controller in Xbox Game Pass and the experience is very good without the need to, Again, buy a console.

Xbox Series X review

So it’s a pity The Alex of 2022 would be the Alex who hated Alex a few years ago.. And I wish the hardware would give way to the PS6 or Xbox Series 2 software which was… well, sort of a Chromecast or a simple app on your TV or mobile phone (that’s the future that will come sooner or later).

HOWEVER, and this is the most important thing, this is my casea person who doesn’t want so many gadgets at home right now because they have a very good internet connection, but that might not be your case.

And the fact is that both in my country and in other parts of the planet, there are areas that cannot access the network at a speed of 1 Gb / s, because it simply does not reach their home, and for these people, the hardware is is still the only way to access video games.

So, I don’t want consoles to disappear, but I would like in my case, in 5 years, PS6 to launch both in the traditional console format and in the app format for my mobile and TV.
