If there is a “cool” fair, then this is the IFA. Although it goes unnoticed outside of the professional technology sector, it is a fair where manufacturers bring their new technology and tweak it all in a very “pretty” way to impress the public.

And the thing is, at the end of the day, it’s a fair stance for consumers, which is why companies put on their best clothes to get attention, being LG and Samsung, two of those who are always “struggling” to get more attention with their panels..

Samsung took advantage of this event to once again showcase the Odyssey Ark, the ultra-curved monitor we saw a few days ago at Gamescom, as well as its Connected Home and the new G8, an ultra-wide monitor with an OLED panel. it looks very, very good.

On the other hand, LG also showcased OLED and LG OLED Flex became its star. This is a TV that also has a rather pronounced curvature and that has a flexible OLED panel.

This may seem silly to you, but it’s really impressive and I think quite useful because we won’t have to choose during the game.

In terms of specs, the truth is that we have something very similar to the latest OLED displays from the South Korean company with a clear gaming focus. It has a diagonal of 42 inches with a resolution of 4K, the refresh rate is 120Hz and it uses the latest technology that HDMI 2.1 allows.

So, you will have VRR, it is G-Sync compatible and also AMD Freesync Premium certifiedfeatures Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) and is compatible with Dolby Vision content.

If we follow the sound has two front speakers of 40 W and it is compatible with Dolby Atmos. Yes, this is all that we told you about in the news that we gave a few hours ago, but I wanted to get rid of the “technicality” as soon as possible, because here, however, the technological novelty of the flexible panel is important.

A monitor that flexes at the push of a button

At the level of specifications, as you can see, this is a very interesting TV that can be enjoyed on both PS5 and PC and Xbox Series X. What I like is that it has USB, because along with PC it can work as a HUB, but in the end, the main feature is the possibility of a flexible panel.

And that’s what we can go from flat panel to panel with curvature up to 900R, which is quite pronounced. There are 20 intermediate levels to leave it to your liking and the method is very simple.

The TV has a bottom button in the center that gives you access to various configuration options or source selection, but it’s also the one that lets you set the curvature position or adjust it manually.

From what I’ve been able to verify, we have three positions, one completely flat and two that we can adjust to e.g. have a curvature of 50% and the other 100%. If you want, you can manually set it to 80%, 40%… as you see fit.

The important thing is that this is an automatic process thanks to two hands and a central motor unit. this is what does the job, so you don’t have to “bend” it with a wave of your hand. And truth be told, it gives me more security, since if it was by hand, we could change the angle and break the screen.

As I said before, this may seem silly to you, but the experience changes radically. For example, in a cooperative game, or if you are sitting at a certain distance from the TV, it will be enough to lay it flat, as this will also be a better experience.

It’s kind of conventional… and I don’t need to tell you much, but if you feel very close and push the curvature to the max, you will have the most exciting experience.

And that’s where the finesse lies, as you don’t have to choose between a conventional TV or a curved one that allows you to immerse yourself in the game in a very interesting way, but there is no perfect product, and here we have an obvious drawback. .

And this, after all, these flexible OLED panels have a plastic coating It reflects a lot of light in the room. I know we weren’t in the best conditions to test this, we’ll do it at home and talk to you in more detail, but the truth is that reflection was important.

In this case, something similar to what happens with reflections in a mobile phone with a flip panel occurs, with reflections more noticeable than, curiously, in a glass-covered panel.

But hey, at least from the tests we were able to run with Forza Horizon 5, Tekken 7, or Halo Infinite, the image quality is excellent and I didn’t notice anything negative that caught my attention, although as I said, we we will talk about this later.

Folding screens seem to be all the rage, and aside from the Fold 4 we recently reviewed or the new Asus laptop, we have LG making these types of panels for Corsair’s new 45-inch monitor, and LG with this OLED Flex.

Let’s see what kind of recognition he gets at the market level., but the truth is that having it in front of you is, to put it mildly, amazing. And, of course, we look forward to having it in our hands so that we can analyze it.
