One of the most popular video games of 2019, Check from Remedy Entertainment, gets an official sequel: the title is, at least for now, a simple “Control 2”, but it is confirmed to be the already known – if mysterious – codename Heron announced in June 2021, in collaboration with 505 games.
I am proud to confirm that the game [ambientato nell’universo] from Control, also known as Codename Heron, is Control 2, a full sequel to our award-winning title Control.
in fact, says Remedy CEO Tero Virtala.
We have signed an agreement with 505 Games to co-develop and publish Control 2, a sequel to Control. Read the announcement: https://t.co/UD1iFHvCeH

The funds allocated for the development of the game are over fifty million euros, with Remedy retaining the intellectual property of the game, while development, marketing and post-launch investments are split equally between the two companies.
The game will be released on PC (specific platforms not yet confirmed) PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, developed on the proprietary Northlight engine. On PC, it will be Remedy itself to publish it, while the console distribution will be a maximum of 505 games.
We are excited to deepen our partnership with Remedy and continue Control’s success story together. Since its launch in 2019, Control has sold over 3 million copies. It’s the biggest investment 505 Games has ever made, so it holds a special place in our hearts. We’re grateful to the entire gaming community for making it such an enduring and beloved game, and we’re even more excited to be able to bring you Control 2.
said Rami and Raffi Galante, co-CEOs of Digital Bros Group/505 Games.
The original game, as mentioned released in 2019, was nominated for eleven BAFTA Games Awards, among others, and received more than twenty Game of the Year awards around the world.
No advances have been provided for the new title, except that we are still in the concept stage and therefore the title will not affect Remedy’s 2022 programs in any way.
Here’s the summary of the “final” version of the game, the Ultimate Edition, which includes all the latest improvements and DLCs:
An invasive presence has occupied the Federal Bureau of Control… and only you can stop it. The surrounding landscape will be your best weapon in an epic confrontation with a menacing foe in a series of deep and unpredictable environments. The containment has been broken and now all of humanity is in danger. Will you manage to regain control?
Winner of over 80 awards, Control is a spectacular third-person action-adventure game that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Combining some open-ended scenarios with world building and storytelling from award-winning developer Remedy Entertainment, Control offers a truly intense and rewarding expansive gaming experience.
