One of the most popular Italian series abroad (where it is broadcast via HBO) is The brilliant friend, directed by Daniele Luchetti and based on the novels written by Elena Ferrante: for the fourth season there is a change of the two protagonists (a bit like in The Crown) to better mark the passage of time. And if Alba Rohrwacher has been confirmed as Elena for a while, there is still no official news about the identity of Lila’s new interpreter.

One of the most popular Italian series abroad (where it is broadcast on HBO) is L’Amica Geniale, directed by Daniele Lucetti and based on the novels written by Elena Ferrante: a fourth season is planned (a bit like in The crown) the change of the two protagonists to better mark the passage of time. And if Alba Rohrwacher has been confirmed as Elena for a while, there is still no official news about the identity of Lila’s new interpreter.

However, the Rocchetti company, which specializes in film supplies, said in a now-deleted post on Instagram that Irene Maiorino (seen in the series as Gomorrah And The bastards of Pizzofalcone) will be lilac. This is because the post showed two packages pertaining to exactly the same number of wigs, with the names of the two characters on them (“Elena” and “Lila”) and two actresses tagged on the packages respectively Alba Rohrwacher and, exactly, Irene Majorino.
All in a rather unequivocal way: moreover, deleting the post only confirms the leak.

Pending the official announcement, we remind you that the series, produced by Lorenzo Mieli for Fremantle, The Apartment and Wildside (both companies of the Fremantle group) and by Domenico Procacci for Fandango, in collaboration with Rai Fiction and HBO Entertainment, will come from the last book of Elena Ferrante’s quadrilogy, published in Italy by Edizioni E/O.

Last season we had Margherita Mazzucco in the role of Elena Grieco and Gaia Girace in that of Lila Cerullo: the series is written by Elena Ferrante, Francesco Piccolo, Laura Paolucci and Saverio Costanzo.

This is the summary of last season:
Elena and Lila have become women. They became so early: Lila married at sixteen, has a young son, left her husband and her wealth, works as a laborer in very harsh conditions; Elena left the neighborhood, studied at the Normale di Pisa and published a successful novel that opened the doors to a rich and cultured world. Both have tried to force the barriers that would close them in a fate of misery, ignorance and submission. Now, with the overwhelming rhythms to which Elena Ferrante has accustomed us, they sail in the great open sea of the seventies, a scenario of hopes and uncertainties, of tensions and challenges hitherto unimaginable, always united by a very strong and ambivalent bond, sometimes visible in the painful and inevitable alternation of violent outbursts or encounters that offer him unexpected perspectives.

This instead of that of the last novel, “Story of the Lost Child”:
Last chapter of the tetralogy “My brilliant friend”. With Naples, accounts are never closed and Elena, an established writer, returns to the city she fled from. Here he finds Lila, turned IT entrepreneur, and their friendship returns to what it once was, lifeblood and savage sting.
