The document shows what will happen to EPS, which will be the institutions of the system, its area of interest, the transition process between the current model and the proposed one, and even what extraordinary powers Petro will have. The text was approved by congress.

He also talked about what would be prepaid medicine and private insurance. Article 148 states: “Private companies whose corporate purpose is the sale of prepaid or voluntary health plans may continue to operate and market their services in accordance with the rules and standards of functioning, financing and service provision that govern them. It won’t be a priority.”

One of the concepts introduced by the reform is the regionalization of EPS; this consists in the fact that they will concentrate their activities in cities and departments where they have the largest number of subsidiaries and have the largest organization of service delivery. them from geographic distribution.

Another point that attracts the most attention is that new Health Promoting Organizations will not be allowed to enter the Health System as of the enactment of the said law.

For each household, all its members must be affiliated with the same EPS. If there is only one EPS in the area, he cannot refuse insurance and has to take care of the entire population of the area. If the sites do not have EPS, New EPS will be responsible for insurance or other EPS with capacity. La Nueva can hire services if needed.
