The adjectives “amazing” or “perfect” fall short compared to the “remake” of “Dead Space” by EA Motive. Originally released in 2008, this survival horror game has gone through excellent and meticulous processing to make it seamlessly arrive on the latest consoles and PCs.

We play engineer Isaac Clarke in Dead Space.was asked to repair the enormous USG Ishimura, a mining ship stranded in the middle of space. What seems like a routine task quickly turns into a hell of dismemberment, blood, and death by necromorphs, fearsome and aggressive creatures.

This video game is built from the ground up on the Frostbite graphics engine.from EA, which allows, among other things, ultra-realistic animations, better visual and sound effects, and a complex destruction system.

It was obvious and predictable that elements such as the textures and complexity of 3D objects would be noticeably better than the 2008 version, but where Frostbite really shines is in its implementation of the three aforementioned aspects.

This ultra realistic animations they stand out on the go with the fluid, natural expressions on the characters’ faces. They also excel at the movement changes they have when taking damage, focusing on the extremities of necromorphs.

These days, ray tracing is becoming more common. However, it is not a feature that completely convinces gamers who usually prefer higher frames per second. But here it is totally worth sacrificing image fluidity to enjoy the visual effects.

Visually, lighting plays a key role in the ‘push and pull’ of the thriller in this horror game, so it doesn’t make much sense to bet on better behavior and realism via ray tracing. And while it’s incredible and has a remarkable performance, the outdoor scenes, i.e. outside the ship, are wonderful. They can be considered some of the most striking scenes in modern video games.

Now let’s talk about destruction. This Frostbite-powered ability focuses on necromorphs. The mechanism of having to smash them to check their progress still applies in this ‘remake’. But, EA Motive implemented a peeling system To add realism to the fight, as well as to show players the layers of skin, muscle, organs and bones that show how close they are to taking control of these creatures.

As for the story, it’s broadly the same as the original version, though it has undergone some changes, focused on giving more depth to the characters and better connecting with the second and third installments of the series.

Additionally, EA Motive, USG Ishimura is an open world, despite its size and complexity, without a single loading screen, it’s appreciated. In addition, it has created new corridors and rooms that allow the player to deflect and investigate everything that happens on the ship. This makes the game extremely immersive as well as making it a smooth experience.

‘Dead Space’ (2023) is available on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 consoles. Playing on PC requires a minimum of Ryzen 5 2600x or Core i5 8600 processor, 16GB RAM, 50GB RAM available space and AMD RX 5700 or GTX 1070 graphics .
