Another comic book is up for auction for a staggering amount: we’re talking about the first issue of Captain America, which sold for $3.1 million. This is a figure no higher than the record set by the first Spider-Man book, which grossed $3.6 million in 2014.

The Captain America book, which sold for $3.1 million in 1941, cost just ten cents and has skyrocketed as the Golden Age superhero comic books now consistently reach huge prices in sales around the world at auction.

And then the number one is of course the most controversial pieces, as Superman’s first book was auctioned for $3.2 million, and Batman’s for $2.2 million.

The Captain America character was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. The first issue shows how Cap Adolf Hitler is put together, the climate of the Second World War was more than alive then, even in comics.

The character of Captain America has become an even more famous pop symbol over the past decade thanks to Marvel Studios and Chris Evans’ interpretation in special feature films.
