More than half of the graduates of bootcamp courses in programming (short-term intensive training offline courses) had no programming experience before the start of the training, a survey conducted by Elbrus Bootcamp and hh.ru showed.

Nearly 80% of coding bootcamp students are men, survey reveals

Most of the graduates of these programs are men (77%). Although the proportion of women is still negligible, since 2021 it has risen from 17% to 23%. The main age of the bootcamp students is from 21 to 35 years (87%). There are also those who are over 40 years old. And a small part are under 20.

77% of the respondents received a higher education or an academic degree before training in the bootcamp, 13% have an incomplete higher education, another 10% have a general secondary or specialized secondary education.

People with different backgrounds decide to take such courses, 47% of graduates have technical and engineering education, 46% – social, humanitarian or economic.

At the same time, more than half, 60% of the graduates, had no knowledge of programming before studying at the bootcamp. 34% had some experience at school, university or as a hobby. Only 4% program at work before studying.

The main learning motives are the desire to completely change the type of activity, increase wages and expand career prospects.

467 people participated in the survey.
