WhatsApp* announced the launch of channels in the messenger. They will be placed in a separate “Relevant” tab, which will be separate from chats and communities. The innovation will be available in the coming months.
Administrators will be able to publish their content: text, photos, images and videos, as well as polls and stickers. They will also have the ability to block the forwarding of messages and screenshots and prohibit certain users from subscribing.
“We are building a catalog of channels with news from local government agencies, content on sports, hobbies and more,” the publication says.
You can enter the desired channel by invitation or by searching. The data of the subscribers themselves (phone numbers, profile photo) will be hidden both from other users and from channel administrators.
Also, posts in channels will not be stored for more than 30 days.
In the first stage, end-to-end encryption is not provided, but it can be implemented in closed channels with a limited number of subscribers.
Channel owners will also be able to earn profit using paid services.
Previously, the messenger added the ability to edit an already sent message. You can change the text in 15 minutes.
