Compared to December 2022, there are 2.5 times fewer business leaders who see deterioration in the work of their companies due to the economic situation: their share of the total number of respondents is 11%. And every second leader expects the situation to improve in the next six months.

“In general, the mood in the business community is positive,” said Yelena Kuznetsova, a partner at Yakov & Partners and co-author of the study. — It is also interesting that companies’ priorities have changed. Whereas at the beginning of the year the reduction of costs and the adaptation of the supply chain were at the forefront, now the hiring of employees, the entry into new geographic markets and the launch of new investment projects stand out”.

Cost reduction has moved from the first position in the ranking of business priorities to seventh, and the prospects of launching new investment projects and entering new markets are mentioned by one in three managers as a priority.

Analyzing the subjective assessment of business leaders about the state of their companies, the study authors point out:

  • The most optimistic about the state of affairs are representatives of retail and e-commerce (six months earlier, the answer “the situation has improved” was given by 46%, and now – 78%) and the mining industry and metallurgical (before 37%, now 48%),
  • The deterioration of the situation was reported by the leaders of the chemical industry (six months earlier, the answer “the situation has worsened” was given by 25%, and now – 31%).
  • Representatives of the technology, IT and banking sectors are also quite optimistic about their future in business and what analysts see as a reflection of the “import substitution trend”.

Foreign trade bans, geopolitical tensions, and supply chain disruptions remain top challenges for domestic business leaders.
