The tech publication analyzed data provided by Twitter to the Lumens database and found that Twitter fully complies with more than 80% of the 971 government and legal requests it has received since Musk bought the company.
Before it was taken over by Musk, Twitter only fully complied with about half of government requests.
What’s more, Twitter’s own reports show that since Musk bought the company, the company has not turned down a single request from the government, though it has occasionally turned it down. Demands came from countries such as India and Türkiye.
Interestingly, Musk has previously made “freedom of speech” a core tenet of his Twitter brand, calling himself an “absolute supporter of free speech” and promising a censorship-proof platform.
