Keith Bergeron, Apple’s VP of Hardware Engineering, and Laura Metz of Apple’s Mac Product Marketing team spoke to Tom’s Guide about the creation of the 15-inch MacBook Air.

Bergeron says the market is saturated with 15-inch Windows laptops, so they already knew they had a potential buyer. At the same time, such performance is not required, but the MacBook Air is already not enough.

The design team came to the conclusion that the best choice would be not just 15 inches, but a slightly larger 15.3 inches.

One of the big things that the team really needs to focus on is reliability, performance, and not having a big screen size. We use a structural key to secure the panel to the display case. Because of this, the body of the laptop has become a little thicker, but closer to the 13-inch model.

The heat dissipation and performance of the M2 processor has been improved to keep the run time on par with the 13-inch model. It is more active in identifying moments when users really need increased power, and until then it is more efficient to manifest it to a significant level. [Tom’s Guide]
