The site discovered that Google wants to make switching from an old phone to a new one even faster Android Authority via tipster known as @AssembleDebug on X (formerly Twitter). An application intended to transfer data hides hints of a function that, if implemented, could make the process more agile.

The new transfer method is called “MultiTransportD2dTransport” and is hidden in the Data Restore Tool implementation in build 1.0.624892571. Particularly relevant clues were two strings found in the application code that optionally mentioned the possibility of “speeding up data transmission”.

At first, Google’s solution to speed up the process of transferring files from one mobile phone to another involves using Wi-Fi and cable connection at the same time. Thus, devices will not be dependent on a single bus for information transfer and will theoretically accelerate data sharing.

In addition to the new feature, Google also seems to be working on another tool that will allow you to transfer files from one mobile phone to another at any time, even after the first use. The function is currently called “Restore Anytime” (“Restore at any time”, in free translation), but it does not offer much information at the moment.

Right now, Data transfer from one mobile phone to another is only possible when the target device is newly formatted (or fresh out of the box). The new development in preparation will eliminate this limitation, but with some restrictions:

  • Restoring copies photos, contacts, messages, and other files found on the original device;
  • The user will not lose the latest data and new files will be added to the new device but it will not interfere with the preferences set in Settings on the target mobile phone.

Now, None of the new features have a release date. However, since the new feature is available in a native Google app, you won’t need to have the latest version of Android to take advantage of it.
