The international Internet registrar RIPE NCC resumes issuing new IP addresses to sanctioned Russian companies, writes RBC. We are only talking about services in the field of telecommunications, data transmission and telephony.

The international registrar partially withdrew Russian resources from sanctions

The service resumed on June 12. The letter, published by the organization, indicated that the RIPE NCC will remove the mention of “sanction” from its database.

The RIPE NCC is also beginning to process new membership applications and enter into sponsorship agreements with users who fall under this exception. At the same time, several Russian companies and individuals will not be affected by the weakening, since they do not only provide telecommunications services. Each RIPE NCC member will be contacted separately.

The director of external relations of the RIPE NCC, Maxim Burtikov, clarified that only those participants with respect to whom the investigation is ongoing can count on the resumption of service. Completed investigations into the applicability of sanctions will not be reviewed.

According to the organization’s Q2 Sanctions Transparency Report, the registrar has been handling 1,046 sanctions cases since 2021. Of these, 361 cases are related to the entry of Russian troops into the territory of Ukraine. In addition, since February this year, four participants have refused to cooperate with the RIPE NCC.

The registrar also said it would not issue bills to sanctioned members until it was determined whether the banks could accept such payments.
Among the Russian telecom operators on the sanctions lists are, in particular, Rostelecom and Megafon. The latter had previously applied to the Court of Justice of the European Communities to lift the restrictions.
