Google forced to halt ad business in the EU Business Insider India

The European Commission forces Google to stop advertising in the European Union. Business Insider writes about it.

The European Commission notified Google today that it considers the corporation guilty of violating competition rules in the advertising market. Google has leveraged its dominance to generate revenue in the ad server, ad-buying software, and other marketplaces.

“The Commission’s preliminary view is that only Google’s forced withdrawal of some of its services will resolve its competition concerns,” the European Commission said in a statement.

Google has yet to receive a fine or a cease and desist order.

“The Commission’s investigation focuses on a limited aspect of our advertising business and is not new. We disagree with the EC’s views and will respond accordingly,” said Dan Taylor, Google’s vice president of global advertising.

Digital advertising is a key source of revenue for Google, bringing the corporation up to 80% of annual revenue. Google’s advertising revenue in 2022 was $224.5 billion.
