In the human body there is a “defender” against premature aging of cells – this is the enzyme glutathione peroxidase. However, one of the scientists, Vladimir Potapov, states that it is dependent on selenium. No element – the antioxidant activity of the enzyme is reduced.
After synthesizing a class of selenium-containing compounds with high glutathione peroxidase-like activity, the researchers tested them in mice. The experiment was successful – rodents who took the drug felt good, even at fairly high concentrations.
In addition, it turned out that the immunity of such mice responds more actively to infectious agents. At the same time, the antioxidant properties of the compound can reduce the load on the organs of the immune system.
According to one of the Siberian chemists Maxim Musalov, a leading researcher of the Institute of Chemical Chemistry of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, they managed to create a drug with a double action, which both stimulates the immune system well and does not. immune response to harm the body.
