Several weeks have passed since the presentation of iOS 17, but we continue to find new features and chips that were not covered in that video.
For example, Safari now has the ability to “Listen to a page” using the Siri voice assistant, so you can now listen to any long read like an audiobook instead of reading it with your eyes.
It’s nice that this function works in Russian.
How to turn on the “Listen” function on the page in iOS 17
Text voiceovers could be customized using accessibility to help people with disabilities. However, in iOS 17, developers have built this feature right into the regular Safari web browser.
So you need:
● open any Internet page with text in Safari, for example this article
● the usual “aA” icon on the left side of the address bar
● in the installed menu, select the item “Play page”
That’s it, Siri will start reading the text with an expression, avoiding contextual advertising. You can just lock and put the iPhone in your pocket, the voice acting will not be interrupted.
This feature works on all pages that support reading mode, the language must match the language settings of Siri itself. However, even if you find a page, for example, in Russian, first translate this page into Russian Safari, and only turn on “Play page”.
A handy feature, all installed iOS 17 is a recommendation to the offer.
