Ozon intends to intensify the fight against counterfeits and prohibited products: from July 3, when products are blocked, the marketplace will also charge unscrupulous sellers for their placement. This is stated in the Ozon message.

Ozon will start penalizing sellers for posting counterfeits and replicas starting July 3

According to the site’s rules, prohibited goods include counterfeits, replicas and other products whose sale is restricted by Russian law.

With such a move, Ozon hopes to further protect customers from buying low-quality and dangerous products, as well as counterfeits that land on the site without going through market rules.

The amount of the penalty is the same for any type of violation and amounts to 10 thousand rubles for each product. In the first month of the new system, the site will arrange a 99% discount for all sellers (the fine will be 100 rubles).

The seller will be fined if the posted product is prohibited for sale or if its description violates the site’s rules (for example, there is no 18+ mark). Sanctions will affect both prohibited goods already placed on the site, as well as violations during the initial moderation.

Similar products will be hidden from the window. The seller may challenge the decision of the market within a period of 7 days.

To combat low-quality products, Ozon also performs multi-level verification of product cards, including the use of models that use machine learning. Thus, according to our own data, in the first three months of 2023, 82% fewer prohibited goods were detected and concealed than in the fourth quarter of 2022.
