Analyst group TrendForce reported a 15% drop in average selling prices in the first quarter of 2023, with a further 8-13% drop expected in the second quarter.
For consumers, this means it’s a good time to upgrade or build a PC. The average cost per gigabyte has dropped to just 6 cents, making SSDs more affordable than ever before. Buyers on a budget can find PCIe 4.0 NVMe drives that offer high serial transfer speeds of 4,000 to 5,000 MB/s for as little as 5 cents per GB.
Those seeking even higher performance can opt for high-end drives priced between 6 cents and 8 cents per GB. For example, the price of the Samsung 990 Pro has dropped significantly from $169 to $84.99, according to TrendForce.
If the need for new SSDs is not urgent, you can wait for further price cuts.
